Ingredients


  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 5 cloves garlic, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon sherry cooking wine or Shaoxing wine (I used sherry cooking wine)
  • 1 can chicken stock (2 cups)
  • 3 tablespoons oyster sauce
  • 2 tablespoons low-sodium soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon dark soy sauce (or an addition of 1 teaspoon low-sodium soy sauce)
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 cup frozen peas
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons of water
  • boiled rice, to serve


This is how you make it:


  1. Cook the minced meat and the onion in a skillet until beef is browned and cooked through, about 5 minutes. Break it into small pieces while stirring. Add the garlic and cook for 30 seconds.

  2. Add the sherry and cook for about 1 minute. Add the chicken stock, oyster sauce, soy sauce, dark soy sauce (or extra low-sodium soy sauce), and sesame oil. Cook until almost all of the liquid has evaporated, about 10 to 12 minutes. Season with pepper.

  4. Combine the cornstarch and water into a slurry. Add it to the meat mixture.
