During the summers of my childhood, there always seemed to be a pitcher of iced tea in my fridge. Sweet tea, to be exact. It was a favorite of my father’s that quickly became a favorite of mine. At some point I became responsible for making the next pitcher, and over time perfected my method (eight to 10 bags of black tea soaked in just a few cups of hot water, the sugar added while it was still hot so that it dissolves and then sprinkled with cold water to dilute). Eventually I started experimenting with other teas and even unsweetened (gasp!) versions, which opened my eyes to the wide world of iced tea and all the ways it can quench your thirst on a hot day.
