5 Healthy Dalia Recipes For Your Babies

In our youth we all enjoyed eating Dalia or broken wheat, and most of us still do. It tastes delicious whether we prepare hot or sweet Dalia. The best aspect is that it is also safe for babies and small children. There are plenty of Dalia dishes that you can try and add this wholesome and wholesome grain to your kid’s diet. Darlia is basically cracked wheat and can be produced with a variety of grains, including corn, wheat or barley. However, it is prepared in different techniques and from wheat in different regions of India. You can make thick Dalia for kids and adults, but make sure the consistency is thin when you make it for your baby. Thin Dalia is easier to swallow and digest for babies just starting to eat. “You can start introducing Dalia/broken wheat in about 7-8 months. It’s very nutritious and gives a lot of energy. It’s filling and stimulates digestion.” says Shabana, certified in infant nutrition and cooking, in her recent Instagram post. Furthermore, she shared five Dalia recipes that you can easily give to your baby.

1. Dalia Milk Porridge

Ingredients:

Dalia – 1/4 cup

Date syrup tablespoon (optional)

Ghee-1/2 teaspoon

water- 1/2 cup

Method:

1. Wash and soak Dalia for 1 hour. Drain the water and blend the Dalia in a blender by adding a little water.

2. Now strain the Dalia paste with a muslin and squeeze out as much milk as possible.

3. In a saucepan, add Dalia extracted milk and cook the porridge consistency.

4. Add date syrup and mix well. Add ghee and turn off the heat. Serve hot.

2. Vegetarian Dalia khichdi

Ingredients:

Dalia – 1/4 cup (washed and drained)

Ghee-1tbsp

Cumin seeds – 1/4 tsp

Onion – 2 tbsp (finely chopped)

Tomato – 2 tbsp (finely chopped)

Potato 1/2 (peeled and diced)

Carrot 1/4 cup (chopped)

Black Pepper Powder-1/2tsp

Water-2 cups

Method:

1. Heat ghee in a pressure cooker, add cumin and let it splutter.

2. Add onions and fry until golden brown. Now add tomato, vegetables, black pepper and stir for 1 min.

3. Add Dalia and water. Close the lid and cook 4 whistles under high pressure and turn off the heat.

4. Once the pressure is released, add more water according to your baby’s needs.

5. Transfer the khichdi to a bowl and feed it warm.

3. Dalia porridge

Ingredients:

Dalia – 1/4 cup (washed and drained)

Date syrup – 2 tsp (optional)

Almonds-4

Water-3/4 cup

Milk-1/2 cup

Method:

1. In a pressure cooker, add Dalia, almonds, water and cook for 2 to 3 whistles.

2. Once the pressure is released, add date syrup (if using) and blend into a smooth paste.

3. Mix it with formula or breast milk and feed your baby.

Remark:

If using cow’s milk, put the blended Dalia in a saucepan, add milk and cook over low heat until it thickens.

4. Dalia upma

Ingredients:

Dalia – 1/4 cup

Mixed vegetables-1/4 teaspoon

Ghee-1/2 tbsp Curry leaves-2 to 3

Mustard seeds – 1/4 tsp

Hung- a pinch

Pepper powder – as desired Salt to taste (optional)

Water- 1 cup

Method:

1. In a pan, add a little ghee and dry Dalia over medium heat for 2 minutes and set aside.

2. In the same pan, add ghee. Add mustard seeds and let it splutter.

3. Add hing, curry leaves and fry for a few seconds. 4. Add vegetables and fry for a minute.

5. Cook until softened by adding a little water.

6. Now add water and bring it to a boil. Now add Dalia and mix well.

7. Cook until Dalia becomes soft by adding a little more water (if needed)

8. When you’re done, serve it to your baby.

5. Dalia halwa

Ingredients:

Dalia-1/4cup

Ghee- 1 tablespoon

Jaggery-1tbsp

Dry Fruit Powder-1tbsp

Cardamom powder – a pinch

Milk-1/4 cup

Water-1/2 cup

Method:

1. Roast the Dalia in a pan by adding ghee. Add water and cook until Dalia comes to a full boil.

2. Add milk and cook for 2 to 3 minutes until the milk is completely absorbed.

3. Add cane sugar powder, cardamom powder and cook until water is absorbed.

4. Add dry fruit powder and mix well. Serve hot.
