If you’re a fan of artichokes and looking for a new, quick and easy way to cook them, look no further than this air fryer recipe. Simple and simple – the air fryer is a great way to cook artichokes, and it makes them crispy in the most perfect way. Just serve with your favorite dipping sauce, dunk and repeat until they’re all gone.
Recipe developer Miriam Hahn came up with this easy recipe, and there’s no doubt you’ll want more. “My favorite thing about this recipe is how quick and easy it is,” Hahn shares. She adds that making artichokes is usually slow, but this method is much faster. “In addition, the outside of the leaves gets a little crispy and they hold the seasonings so you get more flavor as you eat,” adds Hahn.
Another great advantage of this dish is that it can be served as an appetizer or side dish. “They’re not super filling, so I think they make a great appetizer because you still have room for a meal,” Hahn says.
Collect the ingredients for air-fried artichokes
This recipe only requires a handful of ingredients. You will need two medium sized artichokes, olive oil, lemon, salt and pepper.
Wash and cut the artichokes
Get your artichokes and wash them well. Then cut the stem off each artichoke so that there is only about 1 inch (2.5 cm) left. There is still some cutting to do. Cut the tip leaves off the artichokes, then cut about ½ inch from the top part of the artichoke.
Cut the artichokes in half
Don’t put the knife down yet. Now cut the artichokes in half. If you want, you can remove the fluffy part from the center or just leave it in and don’t eat it.
Put the artichokes in the airfryer and brush them with oil
Take the baking tray of your airfryer and place the artichoke halves face up. Brush the top of the artichokes with oil, then squeeze about ¼ of the lemon onto each half. Sprinkle with a little salt and pepper to taste.
Then turn the artichokes over so they are face down. Brush again with oil and sprinkle with some salt and pepper.
Airfry and flip the artichokes
Set the air fryer temperature to 350 F. Then set your timer for 15 minutes. Once the timer goes off, flip the artichokes over so they are face up and cook for another 15 minutes. You can check doneness when you can easily pull out the leaves. “Cooking time will depend on the artichoke size and your airfryer. But the great thing about the airfryer is that you can easily pause and monitor the cooking time. If they’re undercooked, just slide the basket back in,” Hahn shares.
Serve your air-fried artichokes
Remove the artichokes from the airfryer and serve as you wish. You can combine it with any type of dipping sauce you like. “Artichokes go well with any entree. Fish, meat, chicken, pasta, soups, or salads. I feel like artichokes make every meal a little fancier,” Hahn says.
Hahn also suggests serving these with melted butter, sour cream or salt, and fresh dill. “Other ideas are olive oil, Dijon mustard and lemon or Greek yogurt with lemon and dill. You can also use a ready-made ranch or blue cheese dressing to keep it easy,” Hahn says.
You can save leftovers and “just reheat in the microwave or put back in the air fryer,” Hahn shares.
