CHARLOTTE, NC Can a plant-based menu satisfy Americans’ hunger for picnics in the park, backyard, or beach this July 4th weekend and July National Picnic Month?

Dole Food CompanyInc. Say yes with 10 easy recipes that push the flavor boundaries of what’s possible with plant-forward meal prep for picnics, barbecues and outdoor parties this summer. Offered as part of the product giant’s “Healthier by Dole” alternative menu series in July, the 10 dishes feature limited ingredients and menu steps and are vegan, vegetarian and/or gluten-free.

“Healthier by Dole” is a monthly series of recipes and menu replacements for iconic dishes enjoyed during life’s big and small moments. Led by Melanie Marcus, RD, MA, Dole’s Nutrition and Health Communications Manager, the program offers easy-to-make, flavorful recipes with plenty of fruits and vegetables and perfect for any vacation or dining experience. So far this year, Dole has a big game-worthy vegan tailgate in February, healthier dishes with an Irish theme for St. Patrick’s Day and a Grilled pineapple menu for Father’s Day in June.

The latest “Healthier by Dole” menu features 10 sandwiches, salads, side dishes and drinks recipes that offer a surprisingly tasty way to go gluten-free, vegetarian and/or vegan. Marcus focuses on uncomplicated snacks and handheld foods that take advantage of the freshness factor, and she offers more picnic tips in her blog post on the Dole website.

“With summer in full swing, Dole wants to show that picnics, barbecues, and outdoor meals can be easy, healthy, flavorful, and satisfying all at the same time,” Marcus says. “From vegetarian wraps and limited-ingredient salads to vegan sandwiches and dips, we invite Americans to explore the flavor and convenience of a plant-based picnic.”
