Drinks guide (research, brew and recipes)

The Serpent Rogue contains a variety of potions that can be brewed with different effects depending on the combination of ingredients used.

A few different types of drinks can be brewed in it The Serpent Villain using two or three ingredients in the abandoned house lab or in a portable lab. Both research and brewing can be done from a portable lab, but the item weighs a lot and may not be practical to carry around all the time. A portable lab can be made in the smelter with two logs, a textile and a scrap metal. Whether players use the Abandoned House or a Portable Lab, ingredients must be researched before potions can be brewed.

Players will encounter a variety of ingredients as they embark on an adventure in The Serpent Villain, but the effect will begin as unknown until sufficient research is completed. To examine an item, it must be taken to a Lab. Research costs one resource and each type has a certain number of times it needs to be researched. Once the effect is discovered, the ingredient can be combined with others to make different potions.

Researching ingredients is only half of being able to brew potions. Players also need to figure out which ingredients to combine to get the desired effect for each potion. There are a few different types of potions, including potions that affect status conditions and others that can summon creatures. Drink recipes are unlocked after they are first brewed. Ingredients will be consumed whether or not a potion has been successfully brewed, but a warning will appear if the failed potion is retried.

Core ingredients are used to create potions that add or remove conditions and stats. Three ingredients must be used in base potions that add or remove an effect. These potions can also increase or decrease stats depending on which ingredients are combined. As long as the resources are researched, players can try any combination of ingredients to unlock different potion recipes.

  • berries: Adds an effect or increases stats depending on other ingredients in the potion
  • tea leaves: Removes an effect or decreases stats depending on other ingredients in the potion
  • Shell: Changes an effect by five
  • herringbone: Changes an effect by 10
  • Claw: Changes an effect by 20
  • Aloe: Affects vitality
  • Charcoal: affects age
  • Juice: Affects food/stamina
  • Bottle of water: adds or removes piles from the wet state
  • Sulfur: Adds or removes stacks of the Burn condition
  • Tracks: Adds or removes Poison Condition stacks
  • Viper Stone: Adds or removes stacks of the Soulless state
  • Garlic: Adds or removes stacks of the Stinky condition
  • Thorner: Adds or removes wound condition stacks

Potion recipes can be discovered by combining a base ingredient with a modifier and a trait or condition ingredient. The basic ingredient determines whether the drink has a positive or negative effect. The potency is determined by the modifier, and what the potion does depends on the added trait or ingredient. Players can experiment with different combinations, but it’s important to note that if incompatible ingredients are combined, the resources will be lost and no potion will be brewed.

  • healing potion: Berry + Shell + Aloe
  • Healing + drink: Berry + Herringbone + Aloe
  • Healing++ drink: Berry + Claw + Aloe
  • Damage Potion: Tea Leaves + Shell + Aloe
  • Damage + drink: Tea Leaves + Herringbone + Aloe
  • Damage++ drink: Tea Leaves + Claw + Aloe
  • aging potion: Berry + Shell + Charcoal
  • Aging+ drink: Berry + Herringbone + Charcoal
  • Aging++ drink: Berry + Claw + Charcoal
  • rejuvenation drink: Tea Leaves + Shell + Charcoal

Any ingredient that affects an ailment, such as Poison, Wound or Soulless, can also be combined with a Berry or Tea Leaves and a modifier, to create a potion that increases or decreases the ailment. These potions follow the same formula and the potency depends on which modifier is used. In addition to experimenting with the basic ingredients, players can create different types of summoning and transformation potions.

Potions can be used to summon creatures or transform a target, depending on which ingredients are used. The creature components can be combined with Berries to create a summoning potion, or Mandragore to brew a transformation potion. The resulting potion will depend on which creature component was used. In addition, players can only obtain a specific part of the creature it is associated with. In addition to creature components, there are other transformation ingredients that can be used for potions with different effects.


  • Mandrake: Can be used to transform a target in conjunction with a creature component or transformation ingredient
  • restless bone: Turns target into an undead Restless when combined with Mandragore
  • Butterfly: Brings target back to life in conjunction with Mandragore
  • cursed ember: Kills the target in combination with Mandragore
  • Poppy: Turns target into a female of their species when paired with Mandragore
  • reed: Converts target into a male of their species when combined with Mandragore
  • Hair: A creature component obtained from a human. This ingredient can be combined with a Berry to summon the creature, or a Mandragore to transform the target.
  • chicken feather: A creature component obtained from a Chicken. This ingredient can be combined with a Berry to summon the creature, or a Mandragore to transform the target.
  • dog wool: A creature component obtained from a dog. This ingredient can be combined with a Berry to summon the creature, or a Mandragore to transform the target when used in The Serpent Villain
  • rat hair: A creature component obtained from a Rat. This ingredient can be combined with a Berry to summon the creature, or a Mandragore to transform the target.
  • mushroom slime: A creature component obtained from a Toad. This ingredient can be combined with a Berry to summon the creature, or a Mandragore to transform the target.
  • snake bowl: A creature component obtained from a snake. This ingredient can be combined with a Berry to summon the creature, or a Mandragore to transform the target.
  • creepy skin: A creature component obtained from a Ghoul. This ingredient can be combined with a Berry to summon the creature, or a Mandragore to transform the target.
  • Black Feather: A creature component obtained from a Valravn. This ingredient can be combined with a Berry to summon the creature in The Serpent Villainor a Mandragore to transform the target.
  • Horn: A creature component obtained from a Faun. This ingredient can be combined with a Berry to summon the creature, or a Mandragore to transform the target.
  • Gorgon scale: A creature component obtained from a Gorgon. This ingredient can be combined with a Berry to summon the creature, or a Mandragore to transform the target.


All transformation potions require a Mandrake. Small amounts of Mandragore appear in the Wasteland and it has red leaves. It may take a while to complete the research for Mandragore and collect enough to brew the desired potions, but players can speed up the process by resting in camp and waiting for the zone to reset when a Corruption Storm passes. Drinks are a big part of making in The Serpent Villainand researching and brewing often helps players progress faster.
