Easy Seven Layer Salad Recipe

Easy Seven Layer Salad Recipe

There aren’t too many ingredients that go into this salad, adding to the overall ease of the recipe. To make it, you’ll need a head of iceberg lettuce (just give it a shred or chop it), diced red onion, chopped celery, peas, mayonnaise, sour cream, sugar, bacon, and some shredded cheddar cheese.

While McGlinn’s ingredient choices stem from the way her family made the salad, she notes there’s plenty of room for interpretation. “Many seven-layer salads use hard-boiled eggs as the layer, often in place of celery or peas,” she explains. She also notes that you can add a layer of green peppers for extra crunch, use a different type of onion, swap bacon for ham, or choose a cheese other than cheddar. There’s one thing McGlinn wants to keep, no matter what other variations you make: “As weird as it sounds, I recommend keeping that candied sour cream layer.”
