If you’re using canned, you’ll need a 15-ounce can plus of a second. Hahn notes that there can only be one if you use a standard (not deep dish) pie crust. The next filling is ½ cup softened butter, ¾ cup coconut sugar, 2 eggs, and ½ cup milk (any type will work).

Hahn likes to use coconut sugar because it enhances the flavor with caramel flavors. She adds, “I also like to use it because it’s slightly less processed than white cane sugar and contains the soluble fiber insulin that helps reduce a rise in blood sugar.” And if you’re always looking for ways to soften hardened brown sugar, coconut sugar keeps its texture.

Next you will need 1 teaspoon cinnamon (plus extra for garnish), 1 teaspoon vanilla, ½ teaspoon nutmeg and ¼ teaspoon ginger powder. This decadent filling fits right into a 9 inch deep pie crust. For simplicity, Hahn recommends using a frozen crust that needs to be baked, but she adds that making a homemade crust also works if you have the time.
