Fun Cinco De Mayo Recipes Are In This Fareway Cooking Segment

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – Whitney Hemmer shares fun Cinco De Mayo recipes in this Fareway Cooking Segment.

Avocados provide nearly 20 essential nutrients and are part of a healthy and wholesome diet, but did you know that peeling the skin of your avocados instead of scooping out the flesh saves more nutrients? The dark green flesh near the skin contains more carotenoids than the lighter colored flesh, meaning there are more antioxidants in each slice.

  1. Gently squeeze the avocado into the palm of your hand. Ripe, ready-to-eat avocados will yield under light pressure.
  2. Cut the avocado in half lengthwise, around the pit.
  3. Separate the quarters.
  4. Peel each segment, starting at the tip.
    1. Peeling saves more of the dark green flesh than with traditional scooping.
