Maryland Invites Chefs to Submit Recipes for Maryland's Best Chef Contest

MDA partners with the Restaurant Association of Maryland (RAM) in this Maryland agricultural and seafood product competition. Recipes must be submitted by July 6 and contain products from at least one farmer, waterman, or producer in Maryland. Chefs are encouraged to submit simple, yet creative recipes using at least one local vegetable/fruit or blue catfish and demonstrate how the average Maryland family can prepare delicious, nutritious meals at home using locally sourced food. RAM will honor two winning chefs, one for blue catfish and one for fruit/vegetables, with a ‘Golden Ticket’ to the World Food Championships in Dallas. Chefs are also invited to celebrate Maryland’s farmers, watermen, and state’s resilient restaurants at a cookout.

“Agriculture and seafood play an important role in Maryland’s history and heritage, and I enjoy seeing new dishes that honor that tradition,” Governor Hogan said. “We also take this opportunity to honor our state’s restaurants that have adapted during the pandemic and are continuing their recovery.”

A team representing cooks, farmers, watermen and consumers selects the winning recipes. Event attendees will also choose a winner for a People’s Choice award. All chefs selected to attend the cookout will receive a $200 stipend to help offset the cost of participating.

The cookout marks a milestone for Maryland’s Best Buy Local program. The state agriculture and seafood brand is now 21 years old and showcases the state’s farmers and watermen and their products to consumers in the state and beyond. MDA will also present its programs during the cookout.

Chefs should be aware that recipes and team member bios may be published in MDAs 2022 Maryland Buy Local Cooking Recipes cookbook. Full rules for entry, registration and additional information about RAM’s other chef competitions are available in the department website or RAMs website
