1. Sam Mannering’s Gnocchi alla Romana
This is a wonderful recipe. It’s cheap, comfortable and requires little technical skill, provided you don’t drop it like I did before baking.
Gnocchi are usually poached, but in this case, like the Romans do, you fry them to submission instead. I take liberties with the addition of sage; usually a simple tomato sauce is the accompaniment, but add whatever you like – crispy bacon, some slow cooked mushrooms, some soft cottage cheese, a little roasted pumpkin. Yes please.

The cacio e pepe by Sam Mannerings
I won’t apologize for the beigeness of this recipe. At this rate, it’s about anything that will help us through this rotten time of the year. After all, winter means winter food.
No one wants to peck at salad this time of year. And so, as in many situations, the solution is carbohydrates. We want carbohydrates. The summer body can wait.

Cloudy Kitchen chef Erin Clarkson’s Nutella chocolate chip cookies
Chocolate cookies are one of my favorite things to bake, and adding chunks of Nutella is a super easy way to take the recipe to the next level.
If you spray Nutella on a piece of parchment paper and then freeze it while you’re preparing the cookies, you’ll get pockets of Nutella, along with swirls of it through the dough. Simply the best.

Nicola Galloway’s Pumpkin Thyme Quiche.
I’ve made this quiche a few times lately and it’s well worth it. You can also double the ingredients and make two quiches, one for you and one for a friend.

Pumpkin, hazelnut and orange cake from Nicola Galloway.
This is a flavorful moist crumble. Pre-cooking the pumpkin is not necessary as finely grated raw pumpkin is used (see details in the recipe).
